Vision Plan

Our Aim

The Cultural Revitalization Vision is a policy that was established by Sado City in the fiscal year of 2010. It has since been used as a master plan for working on the promotion of Sado's culture. Along the way, various issues have surfaced, including the fact that population decline and overall aging has led to fewer means of passing on local culture.

Sado Cultural Foundation was established to utilize the power of culture for local revitalization, as well as to address those issues in partnership with both public and private sectors. In keeping with high expectations from the local public, we are committed to protecting, utilizing and promoting Sado's rich culture along with its residents, while making use of the knowledge, passion and action-readiness of the private sector.

In the fiscal year of 2018, we engaged in activities based on the three pillars of this foundation: inheritance, utilization and publication of Sado's culture. We are also committed to building a more robust foundation and establishing a healthier financial status in order to achieve recognition as a Public Incorporated Foundation.

We have implemented a project centered on traditional performing arts, traditional techniques and architecture,
and traditional crafts as follows, in order to ensure that Sado's precious culture is passed on to future generations.

  1. Traditional performing arts
    • Holding traditional performing arts workshops
    • Offering opportunities to present traditional performing arts in front of an audience
    • Giving advice about props, costumes and other tools related to traditional performing arts / becoming the point of contact for purchase orders
    • Sending lecturers to schools, etc.
  2. Traditional techniques and architecture
    • Gathering information about traditional architecture (status quo, challenges and requests) and digitalizing the information collected
    • Networking and organizing the practitioners of traditional techniques
    • Holding workshops of traditional techniques
  3. Traditional crafts
    • Introducing a Master qualification system

Using the resources of Sado's traditional culture, we are developing new cultural programs that can only be accomplished by the private sector, including:

  1. Traditional performing arts
    • Creating outreach opportunities both inside and outside of Japan by utilizing traditional performing art groups, which have specialized in either classical or modern programs, to promote Sado culture globally
  2. Traditional techniques and architecture
    • Conducting research towards the dispatch of skilled practitioners, export of building materials, etc. in the future
    • Supporting utilization of cultural properties and implementation of commercialization
  3. Traditional crafts
    • Holding premium hands-on craft workshops where participants can both experience craftmaking and create it
    • Opening up new sales channels for traditional crafts

We carry out promotional activities for Sado's culture, while keeping up with ever-changing communication technologies like SNS. We aim to promote cultural resources,
encourage more visitors to come from outside of the island, and support local revitalization by disseminating useful and helpful information effectively in parallel with inheritance and utilization programs.

  1. Publication through an official website
    • Building the official website of Sado Cultural Foundation
    • Creating web pages that serve as platforms for promotion and sales (or experience)
    • Setting up and publicizing traditional performing arts archives (video library)
  2. Other
    • Publishing newsletters that provide information of high quality
    • Disseminating information by using logos and mascot characters
    • Researching and organizing cultural groups, practitioners and others, then making that information available
  1. We aim to improve our staff's knowledge and skills in the handling of accounts, as well as the tax process and legal affairs. We aim to build a solid basis towards being recognized as a Public Incorporate Foundation by developing knowledge of operations management, and strengthening the organization through various activities and study tours to other cultural foundations.
  2. We undertake projects related to those above, numbers 1 - 3.
