Our Aim
Sado Island has an incredible range of cultures that have been nurtured and woven over time with the long history of its people, resulting in an irreplaceable treasure for us all. However, an aging population and a decreasing number of births are causing a shortage of people who can keep the traditions alive. Many of these traditions, therefore, are in imminent danger of being snuffed out like a flame.
To address this situation, we are determined to make every effort to advance public knowledge and appreciation for Sado and its unique culture. We are also dedicated to the development of the culture of Sado Island through various activities, so that we can transmit our precious traditions to future generations.
We have set inheritance, utilization and publication as three strategic pillars to guide our activities for the revitalization of Sado's culture. Working collaboratively with local citizens and concerned parties, we are striving to make Sado Island beloved by all.
Inheritance
In an effort to develop members of the public who can support and champion the culture of Sado towards the future, we are reaching out especially, but not exculsively, to young people. We hope that communicating with them via partnerships with educational institutions and other organizations will help foster a healthy pride and love for their local communities. Taking a multifaceted, productive approach with things like study sessions and workshops for any age, we are trying to help people rediscover the significance of Sado's culture, and raise awareness among all citizens about their cultural birthright.
Utilization
Sado Island is home to a number of cultural properties which have been, until now, affectionated and protected as treasures of both communities and individual residents. The diversity of Sado's cultural heritage, kept alive in each of its various forms, from solemn architecture and traditional performing arts, to crafts that have both functional beauty and excellent artisanship, is a positive contributor to the vibrant daily life of its inhabitants. By simultaneously respecting the current cultural landscape and cherishing the authentic traditions, we endeavor to implement a new way of life.
Publication
In order to accomplish our mission of communicating the culture of Sado to a wider audience, we must continue to learn about its diverse cultural traditions, and then share them with the public. This requires using our knowledge and acquiring a correct understanding of these practices. In this era of advanced means of communication, we strive to gain more Sado aficionados both inside and outside of the island and increase the number of its visitors by using new, more effective, publication technology.
